RECENT EVENTS
- Mr. Pravin Patkar was interviewed on the issue of trafficking for prostitution on 2nd April 08 at the ATC - Prerana by Indian News, a newly launched television channel.
- A resource person from the SNDT nursing college gave vocational orientation to all children above class 4 on 26th March 08.
- Ms. Sindhu Jogi and Ms. Aparna went on a networking mission to the state of Uttaranchal from 9th March to 16th March 08.
- On the 15th of March 08, Ms. Priti Patkar conducted a session for the counsellors in Gujarat working on HIV/AIDS. This training is coordinated by CARAT of TISS.
- On 15th March 55 children above 12 years and 22 members of staff participated in an orientation on the functioning of the fire brigade stations. This activity was coordinated by Ms Aruna Katkar.
- On 2nd March, 38 children participated in a foot ball competition organized by Magic Bus and won the final.
- Eighty Eight children from Falkland Rd, Kamathipura, and Vashi Turbhe centres between the ages 3 and 6 years went for a picnic to the Hanging Garden, Mumbai. The picnic was coordinated by Ms. Sunita Kamble, Ms. Ratan and Ms. Sonali Parab, the staff members of Prerana.
- Ms. Gayatri Divecha, a Project Coordiantor of Prerana, attended a UNICEF meeting at Hotel Marina Plaza on 1st March 2008. The meeting held jointly by UNICEF-Maharashtra and the Government of Maharashtra had a view to take stock of the broad issues related to child protection and to identify priority areas for work for the period 2008-2012 UNCIEF.
- Ms. Gayatri Divecha attended a one day consultation jointly coordinated by CCDT and YUVA for the Mumbai Region on 12th March 08. The objective of the consultation were as follows;
- to increase awareness on the State Children's Commission (CC), its role and functioning;
- to introduce CCAF, its role vis-a-vis CC; and
- to develop a plan of action for effective functioning of CC.
- Mr. Pravin Patkar was invited by Amrita Vidhyapeetham at its Coimbatore campus to conduct a course on legislation related with women and children for the students doing their Master in Social Work. Mr. Patkar completed the course between 24th and 27th March 2008.
- Ms. Priti Patkar was invited as a resource person on 31st March 2008 for a training programme organized by the Mumbai police. The programme was attended by 80 Investigation Officers.
- Ms. Priti Patkar was interviewed by the All India Radio on 31st March 2008.
- The creative team of JWT an advertising company has produced an audio spot for Prerana on child sexual exploitation entirely free of cost.

Visitors to Prerana
- Mr. Ashok Naidu, a representative of Asha for India, USA, met with some of the trustees of Prerana on 8th March 2008. Asha for India has recently started supporting Prerana.
- Action Aid team visited Prerana on 12th March 2008. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences is engaged in providing a month long training to Action Aid programme staff from the Asian region of which one week was focused on "gender". The orientation was for a group of 30 men and women from countries all over Asia (South and South East Asia)
- Mr. Michael Newbill, the Consul Political & Economic Affairs at the U S Consulate in Mumbai, along with his parents, visited the Kamathipura project on the evening of 13th March 08.
- Mr. Lele of the G.J. Kapoor Relief Charitable Foundation visited Prerana and held discussions with Mr. Pravin Patkar and Ms. Priti Patkar on the proposal of starting a food bank.
- Mr Vikrant from USA visited Prerana at the Kamathipura field centre on 20th March 2008. His visit was facilitated by Dasra.
- A staff team of Prajjwala from Hyderabad visited Prerana as part of its visit to Mumbai. The entire visit programme including their visit to the Rescue Foundation, the International Justice Mission, St. Catherine's Home, and Prerana centre was coordinated by Ms. Gayatri Divecha of Prerana. Ms Sonali Parab and Ms. Kalapna Mistry oriented the team to the activities of Prerana.
