The Prerana project for Economic Rehabilitation & Social Reintegration

Most agencies entrusted with the responsibility to rescue traffic victims of flesh trade lacked conviction one of the important factors behind which was the lack of success stories on the rehabilitation front. Prerana took up that challenge in Mumbai. Pratishtha (meaning dignity) is Prerana’s wing for recovery and social reintegration of girl victims of trafficking for commercial sexual exploitation.

Prerana worked in coordination with several agencies including the corporate sector.
For the success Prerana is grateful to:

TRAINING COURSES AT PRATISHTHA IN FULL SWING

Upmarket Fashion Designing Pratishtha meaning dignity is a residential vocational training centre of Prerana that facilitates economic rehabilitation of the rescued girls and those whoare potential victims. Pratishtha conducted a 10 month long residential training course in upmarket fashion designing. The National Institute for fashion Designing designed the course, provided the training and assessed the trainee girls at the end of the course. Not a single trainee girl dropped out of the course. All girls passed the external examination. Almost all of them are gainfully engaged. The girls stayed at Pratishtha. The course was supported by the IOM and the maintenance of the girls was supported by CRS.

Catering & Hospitality Management After the fashion designing course, Pratishtha organized a 4 month long residential training for a batch of 20 girls in Catering & Hospitality Management. The course was especially designed for semi-educated trainees and conducted at its premises by the esteemed ITM Institute of Catering and Hospitality Management, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. CRS supported the maintenance cost of the trainees. All the girls passed the externally conducted examination and were given certificate by the ITM Institute.

Beauty Care A batch of 23 residential rescued girls and other potential victims of trafficking are currently undergoing a 3 month long residential vocational training course in Beauty Care at Pratishtha in collaboration with Pratham. The course started on 5th March 2008 and is held from Monday to Friday every week between 11.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. The course will conclude in the 1st week of June 08. Pratham provided Ms. Supriya Shinde as the teacher for this course.

Every trainee goes through a pre-training orientation and a pre-placement visit to Pratishtha centre. Only those girls who understand all the details of the of the course decide to take up the course and join Prathistha.

Once the trainees complete the current course successfully, they will be able to join yet another course, an advanced course in Beauty Care conducted by the leading saloon in Mumbai, 'Nailini and Jasmine'.
